DARKSIDE// THE VAMPIRES
The raccoon has a life long love affair with vampires. There is something undeniably sexy about them.
Maybe it is also because the raccoon was a biter back in kit-hood. The raccoon may still be a biter when cornered.
Either way, the raccoon is fascinated by the undead so when Kansas City Goths announced Darkside was themed for "The Lost Boys" the raccoon's ears perked up. The raccoon was not raised on the sparkly gentile vampires of Twilight. No, the vampires of the raccoons youth were darker and definitely more dangerous. They were the vampires of "The Lost Boys".
The raccoon suspects this movie affected her fundamentally in some way that left her predisposed to 'bad boys'. We will not be investigating this any further.
DARKSIDE// THE LIVE MUSIC DEITIES HAD A PLAN
The first time the raccoon wandered into Darkside happened as a last minute impulse decision. A quick message was sent requesting to bring the camera.
No response.
So, I took the camera. The worst they could do was say no.
But they did not say no. They gave access to a slightly feral raccoon with a camera. The funny thing is when the raccoon left that day she thought "that was nice but the venue is a little trendy for me. I don't know how often I will be back."
AND... the live music deities laughed. They already had a plan. They already knew the raccoon would return. and return. and return again.
DARKSIDE// THE WEIRD KIDS
The raccoon is aware that some humans have opinions about Warehouse on Broadway, Sound Bite Social, Kansas City Goths, and the weird kids in general.
At this point, the raccoon has spent many hours at Warehouse on Broadway. She has spent those hours gathering evidence, observing, watching, and learning. Most of the raccoons evidence has been collected at Warehouse on Broadway.
The raccoon is never comfortable. Maybe when she is alone. Sometimes. She is awkward. She is aware of this. She can fake normalcy by coercion for brief amounts of time but in the end, she is still awkward and uncomfortable. She has made her peace with this. Sometimes she uses it like a super power.
Other people, though, tend to find the awkward, uncomfortable raccoon, well- awkward and uncomfortable. It is a them problem not a raccoon problem. She is ok with how she is.
At Warehouse on Broadway the raccoon is less uncomfortable and that began with the weird kids at Darkside. Is it a strange space? YEP. That's why the raccoon likes it.
Is it Counter- Cultural? ALSO YES. also, why the raccoon likes it.
Is it perfect? nah, trust the raccoon on this one, she has observed many humans. No space with humans in it is perfect.
The raccoon stands by the distinction she made on her very first visit to Darkside, Sound Bite Social, and Warehouse on Broadway-
It is a safe space. A space where the weird kid is safe to be the weird kid. And whatever not weird kid that wanders in- well they can be not weird there, too.
THE RACCOON HAS LEFT THE BUILDING
Unfortunately, the raccoon had a very long week. Darkside was the sixth show that week and by the time she got to the one she most wanted to attend- she wanted nothing more than to be at home. So the raccoon and the girl offspring headed out a little earlier than we wanted.
The raccoon is not yet a true undead creature of the night and requires rest.
CONDUCT YOUR OWN FIELD RESEARCH
The raccoon strongly encourages independent investigation.
